Kilo Kish matches the whimsy of her song, “Hello, Lakisha,” with a colorful side-scrolling cartoon video, co-directed by Kish and animator Yongoh Kim, which traces her life from birth to present to future. Now residing in Los Angeles, Florida-born Lakisha Kimberly “Kish” Robinson got a start in music when her roommates set up a studio in their apartment, and she wound up collaborating with Matt Martians of the The Internet, appearing on The Jet Age of Tomorrow’s “Want you Still” and The Internet’s “Ode to a Dream.” After a K+ mixtape, three EPs, several art shows and a collection with Maison Kitsuné (she studied fashion design), Kish released her debut 20-track album, “Reflections in Real Time,” this past February on her own label, Kisha Soundscape + Audio. Starting first with 20 song titles, Kish wrote the album in reverse, using the titles to guide her stream-of-consciousness songwriting on themes like “age + self esteem,” “distractions,” “self importance,” “obsessing” and “fulfillment?” — then worked out the tunes with producer Ray Brady. In cataloguing every corner of her inner world, the only topics she avoided were love and infatuation. Perhaps she’s saving those for later.
