Them Guns

Rodney Bingenheimer wants a muffin. He gets one, and “Muffins” too in the new short film of that name. Black-jacketed L.A. synth-rockers Them Guns recruited the the renowned KROQ DJ — whose “Rodney on the Roq” show celebrates its 40th anniversary in August, by the way — for a star turn. It’s endearingly awkward as only Bingenheimer can be — piloting his vintage GTO, he and friends head for Canter’s Deli to get a muffin. Them Guns (Navarone Garibaldi, Kyle Hamood, Chuck Holiday and Chris Hudson), driving an equally cool vintage muscle car, pull up next to him in Hollywood and hand him a copy of their new single “Muffins.” “What a coincidence,” his friend deadpans.

“The Mayor the Sunset Strip” and friends finally reach the promised land, where they’re greeted by Canter’s legendary hostess Bella and he gets his muffin. Directed by Paul Boyd, the video also features Priscilla Presley, Riley Keough, Parker and Kansas Bowling, and Christopher Ameruoso. “This video turned out to be a lot of fun to shoot,” Them Guns’ Garibaldi says. “Random friends just kept on showin’ up for a bite of Rodney’s muffin … of gold. It’s a little bit of an inside joke, but we invite everyone to be a part of it.” As for Binghenheimer, he’s been spinning the single on his weekly show. We’ve heard of pay-for-play, but pastry-for-play?
