Green Gerry began as the wonky bedroom pop project of Gerry Green in Athens, Ga. before he moved to Southern California to perhaps clean up his act (there were wild stories from his Athens days), live with his parents and explore new musical ground. Not that there wasn’t much he’d previously explored — Green Gerry’s 2010 and 2013 full-lengths (“Odd Tymes” and “King Baby,” respectively) were heavy on short-attention-span-theater and light on anything except funny song titles. (See: “Linked Sausage Is Delicious,” or don’t.) Since releasing a pair of singles in 2014, Green Gerry has been working on a third full-length, titled “Electric Iron,” and in search of a single he has compressed everything to the point of claustrophobia on “Mean Miracle.” SPIN called it an “anti-summer gripe,” and it’s got some ticklish guitar parts and handclaps, and it’s been embraced by the cool kids at Hit City U.S.A. so it must be good, right?
