When we first heard Billie Eilish, it was last winter and she was 13 years old and sounding far beyond her years, singing dreamily and intensely about “Ocean Eyes.” Six and a half months and 11 million online plays later, Eilish is 14 and sounding far beyond her years, singing about losing herself and mourning a love that’s dead and buried. The new single “Six Feet Under,” out Friday, was co-written and produced by her big brother Finneas O’Connell, himself still a teenager and doing good things as frontman of the band the Slightlys. As for Eilish, the SoCal prodigy’s brooding pop has already felt the warm embrace of tastemakers worldwide, as well as earning comparisons to the likes of Lana Del Rey and Lorde. Enjoy the mood swings.
