Ears Wide Open: Deep Dark Blue

Deep Dark Blue

Got to appreciate a well-placed rain stick. On “Atoms,” Deep Dark Blue‘s Jason Ganberg and Bryce Alber make fine use of trickling pebbles and much more. If anything, there is a lot of space in “Atoms,” which makes the dreamy details stand out, electronic and live instruments complimenting the calm, cool vocals. When the song does fill up with sound around the 2-minute mark, it is like a huge wave that eats up the whole beach for a moment, then flows back out to the sea, leaving the sand all shiny and smooth. The duo is currently wrapping up an EP recorded in living rooms, closets and bathrooms from California to Europe. Stop here, imagine these two guys crammed into a shower with a rain stick.
