King Khan & the Shrines gave the Echoplex a dose of “Khannibalism” on Monday night and fans ate it up. (See what we did there?) King Khan’s recent exploits have included doing the soundtrack for a documentary on the Memphis black power group “The Invaders” (“Children of the World” just came out on Merge) and co-producing and writing music for “Let Me Hang You,” a recording of William Burroughs reciting parts of “Naked Lunch.” Like the Shrines’ appearance at the Burger Boogaloo in Oakland the day before, though, Monday was about King Khan’s unhinged old-school rock ānā roll. Giorgio Murderer and Gal Pals opened the night.
