Mudcrutch’s song “I Forgive It All” is a paean to reconciliation, with Tom Petty sounding at peace with the past. The band — Petty and pre-Heratbreakers bandmates Tom Leadon and Randy Marsh along with Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench — tapped Sean Penn and Samuel Bayer (whose vast music video resumé includes Nirvana, Green Day, Marilyn Manson and Garbage) to direct the video for the song. And none other than Sir Anthony Hopkins stars as a man who, despite the mellow fellow singing, is not quite a peace with the past. As the narrative follows the protagonist to a dingy hotel room, it’s clear: Forgiveness is hard.
