In the new Beach House video for “The Traveller,” a woman wearing a sharp red suit, her hair done in a 1980s-revival-of-the-1940s updo, strolls through a black void down an endless blue corridor to a yellow door. Simple enough, but the dimension-bending, glowing edges, and color processing make this a beautiful, strange dream thing to behold. Created by L.A.-based media artist Jennifer Juniper Stratford, the video was shot using an obsolete television camera then processed with a video synthesizer and a reconfigured broadcast mixer, which translates to magic. “The Traveller” is from “Thank Your Lucky Stars,” an album Beach House released last October, just two months after putting out “Depression Cherry,” both on Sub Pop, and both oozing with that dream-haze carousel sound that Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally have refined over the last decade.
