In the wake of He’s My Brother She’s My Sister’s indefinite hiatus, husband and wife Rob Kolar and Lauren Brown emerged with duo project Kolars, shedding a lot of the folkiness of their previous band in favor of the glam-a-billy pop inclinations shimmering at the molten core of Rob Kolar’s songwriting. Although they perform as a guitar and tap-dancing drummer twosome, Kolars don’t resist boosting their recordings with a full range of instruments and effects. The why-hold-back attitude imbues the latest tune, “One More Thrill,” with that much more hand-clapping, hip-shaking exuberance. For the Mike Bruce-directed video, these stylish desert lovers visited the giant metal sculptures in Borrego Springs created by Ricardo Breceda, a very cool place where the vast landscape is dotted by around 130 huge sculptures of real and imaginary creatures. Kolars’ full-length album comes out in February 2017.
