Ears Wide Open: VEERS

What new L.A. quartet VEERS are calling “California spacerock” actually covers a lot of geography — the desert rock of Queens of the Stone Age, vintage metal and British psych and post-punk as practiced by the likes of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Interpol. Whatever the terminology, VEERS’ first single “Invader” is a chiseled beast, its elastic bass line vaulting you out of your seat and harmonized guitars buzzing and wailing as if trying to play catch-up with a whole era of alt-rock. The band is fronted by London-reared singer-guitarist Andrew James, who has teamed up with guitarist Sam Woodbury, bassist Roland LeFox and drummer Tommy Roslak to record a self-titled EP (release date to be announced). Recommended for rock fans whose appetites exceed garden-variety garage-rock.
