Ears Wide Open: Forest

Forest

Forest is the musical manifestation of singer-songwriter-gadgeteer Forest Marchini, who has been so busy brewing the tunes on his first EP that he hasn’t started the whole building-a-social-media-presence thing. Forest’s first single “[10]” would earn him some followers, though — it’s a rainstorm of synths, heavy beats, tweaked vocals and smartly used samples (hell yeah, that’s “Easy Rider”). It’s the first song from his six-song EP, “The Struggle Is Not Real,” out this week. Marchini formerly played synth for the L.A. indie-pop group Y LUV before quitting his job, doing some traveling, returning home and locking himself in his bedroom to write songs. And while the EP is his own mad-scientist creation, Forest the band will debut at Echo Park Rising — four synth players and a drummer strong. Somebody oughta volunteer to make Marchini a Facebook page. * [Updated: There is one now.]
