Before turning on “Bodyway,” his second Mndsgn album for Stones Throw, out Sept. 16, producer Ringgo Ancheta would like his future disciples to “think about it as a box of crayons for you to draw emotions with.” Following 2014’s “Yawn Zen” with a more vocal-oriented album of future soul, Ancheta drew inspiration from 1980s SOLAR artists Leon Sylvers III, Kashif and Dave Grusin who “really embodied that potent feeling in the early ’80s boogie/funk/soul/jazz/fusion wave” and tried to mesh them with early 1990s R&B. Employing Wurlitzer & Rhodes chords atop funky clean beats, this music can easily provide a soundtrack for a cerebral journey to a cosmic wonderland or provide the means for sweating your way to enlightenment. The video, directed by Eric Coleman, takes place at some kind of cultish self-help group where everyone has cool outfits and find the answer by staring through the peephole of a large triangle.
