Culture Collide, the festival that for the past six years brought a diverse collection of international, national and local acts to venues throughout Echo Park, has reached its end, although the event might re-emerge in another form.
Originally founded by the music magazine and marketing and promotions company Filter and typically heavily brand-sponsored, Culture Collide suffered declining attendance the past two years after Filter co-founders Alan Sartirana and Alan Miller split into two entities — Sartirana launching FLOOD Magazine and Miller carrying on as Culture Collide.
“We decided to focus on our COLLiDE Under the Stars festivals (including Sept. 17-18 in Santa Barbara with Steady Holiday) this year instead of Culture Collide,” Miller said of the decision to forgo Culture Collide. “I always want to be innovative in what we are doing. The format we used had been copied a lot since we started, making it feel less special to me. That said, it’s not over. I just wanted some time to think though opportunities to make it truly a unique international event that people looked forward to.”
Miller added that he will be announcing the launch of a new event with an L.A. component next month.
