The music of Orange County quartet Super Whatevr is an eye into the world of singer-guitarist Skyler McKee, bummer rock informed by his self-described “cornucopia of happy misery and state of blissful despair.” McKee, joined by guitarist Robert Rutan, bassist Thomas Waale and drummer Luke Mensink, opens a vein or three on the band’s five-song EP, “Good Luck,” and probably no song finds catharsis like “Someone Somewhere Somehow,” a song about death and denial. It’s “a song about an important and emotional period of my life that allowed me to see things from a different lens for better and worse,” McKee says of the deeply personal tune. “This song was never meant to be heard, this song was never meant to be performed, but we hope it can provide perspective for those going through a similar situation. We hope the message gets across.” McKee’s inner conflict is palpable in Super Whatevr’s straightforward visual for the song, letting his powerful lyrics carry the message. It’s not surprising, then, when McKee acknowledges, “Making this music video took time and patience.”
