Ears Wide Open: Lo Moon

L.A. trio Lo Moon are the latest contenders to soundtrack the movie you only see inside your head — their sweeping first song “Loveless” is 7 minutes of bliss that sounds like Spandau Ballet doing The xx to a My Bloody Valentine song title. As debuts go, it’s a stunner; it comes via Columbia Records and was produced by Chris Walla (ex-Death Cab or Cutie), who says on Twitter: “This album is the soundtrack to my year. It’s nearly done. I love these people and I love their beautiful band.” He chooses well. These people are singer-guitarist Matt Lowell, a Berklee product who has released a handful of solo EPs (one a collaboration with John Vanderslice), Samuel Stewart (ex-Nightmare & the Cat) and Crisanta Baker. Having recently starting playing live shows around L.A., the band last week (and without much fanfare) released “Loveless” and its accompanying visual by Davy Evans. Here, lose yourself for a few minutes.
