Beach Baby, thankfully, are not another gang of California stoners doing surf-rock. They are a young quartet of lads from London who met in college and whose whose musical aesthetic straddles the line between ’80s post-punk/New Wave and the Britpop that followed. Their sharply (and at times playfully) articulated anxieties are common to twentysomethings, because when you’re that age, it’s great/OK/bad to be alive and there are plenty of reasons to laugh/fret/mope. Their debut album “No Mind No Money,” the follow-up to last fall’s “Limousines” EP, came out this week. The band — Ollie Pash, Lawrence Pumfrey, Josh “Shep” Hodgson and bassist Kit Jennings — worked on the record with producer Adam Jaffrey (Bloc Party, Dev Hynes, Wytches), and on it Beach Baby sound like a band who spent more than a year woodshedding their songs and sound.
