Joshua Fischel — musician, promoter and Long Beach civic champion — died Thursday, only days after the festival he conceived, Music Tastes Good, enjoyed its inaugural three-day weekend.
He was 47. Circumstances surrounding his death were not immediately available, but a report today in the Long Beach Press Telegram indicated Fischel had been battling a longtime illness.
Fischel was the former frontman of the band Bargain Music, and, recently, Josh Fischel & the Fiction. His band Bargain Music released six albums, and in the ’90s he directed the Sublime documentary “Stories, Tales, Lies & Exaggerations.”
Music Tastes Good brought the likes of the Specials, Iron & Wine, Sylvan Esso, Squeeze, De La Soul, Dr. Dog, Warpaint, Gallant, Deltron 3030, Melvins, Twin Peaks, Living Colour and Cody Chestnutt to downtown Long Beach.
