Crystal Fairy

Here’s a fun, unexpected rock ’n’ roll supergroup that makes delightful sense. Meet Crystal Fairy: Melvins singer and guitarist Buzz Osborne and drummer Dale Crover, Le Butcherettes singer-guitarist Teri Gender Bender and multi-instrumentalist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez of At The Drive-In and The Mars Volta. The seed of the collaboration was planted when the Melvins toured with Le Butcherettes, and Teri would join them to perform “Rebel Girl.” “It was almost always the highlight of the show!” says Crover. “From doing that, we knew there was some chemistry between us that was worth exploring. We became close friends with both Teri and Omar on the tour and came up with the idea of starting a new band with them.” A Melvins fan, Rodriguez-Lopez came to hang out on tour with Gender Bender. She says, “Sometimes, Omar and I would fantasize loudly of hopefully being able to form a power together. Before we knew it, we were writing music in the studio and birthed a magical little gem that I am extremely proud to be a part of.”

The self-titled album from Crystal Fairy will be released by Ipecac Records on Feb. 24, but a limited-edition 7-inch featuring “Drugs on the Bus” and “Necklace of Divorce” comes out Oct. 10 through Amphetamine Reptile.
