Wesley Schultz of the Lumineers told the crowd at the Hollywood Bowl on Wednesday night that his band has “a love/hate relationship with L.A.” The love was apparent throughout the expansive Bowl. The hate? “It was the only place where we got our instruments stolen,” he said.
Hopefully, the crime rate had abated by this trip, in support of their new album “Cleopatra.” The Coloradans played their hits “Ho Hey” and “Ophelia” early in their set, told stories of how they played tiny venues in L.A. back in 2012 (and did a couple of songs to honor those times) and ended their nearly two-hour set with “Stubborn Love.”
BØRNS (who just two years ago this month was making his live debut at the Echo) preceded the Lumineers with a set that included covers of Elton John’s “Bennie and the Jets” and David Bowie’s “Heroes.” Garrett Borns and crew finished big with the singles “American Money” and “Electric Love.”
Rayland Baxter opened the night.
