Foxygen have returned with their first new music since their 2014 full-length “… And Star Power,” and it’s … extravagant. The new song “America” — which the duo of Sam France and Jonathan Rado recorded with a 34-piece orchestra — is a lavish 5-plus minutes of pop that’s almost comically grandiose. It introduces itself as a skronky holiday tune, bops through some jazz and, amid blasts of horns and percussion, laments “America / America / I cry, Lord, to have used you / How could I, of all, to have used you?” Adjust your apoplexy accordingly. With the song comes the news that Sunday at Desert Daze, Foxygen will perform as an 11-piece, including a five-piece horn section.
