L.A.-based singer-songwriter Duran Visek — working under the name Birthday — has captured the fancy of electronic pop fans with his lush, warm and sometimes danceable compositions — crush anthems for those who crush hard. Visek, 21, who was reared in Florida and based until recently in Oakland, is self-taught on guitar, piano and drums. His new song “Parade” will appear on his first proper release, the “Subtle Love” EP due Dec. 2. Propelled by finger-snaps and then tasteful electronic beats, “Parade” drenches listeners in keen emotions of the moment: “All I want is more than ever / to stay this way / while we’re young and / our hearts are on parade.” More sophisticated than the likes of Troye Sivan but not as conceptual as artists such as T.O.L.D., Birthday finds a sweet spot in his restrained but dreamy textures.
