Ty Segall makes music like rabbits procreate. Every time you turn around, there’s a new litter of songs, some you just want to hug. Today the 29-year-old announced his ninth full-length would be out on Jan. 27 via Drag City Records, and that like his debut back in late 2008, it will be a self-titled affair. That’s nine full-lengths in under nine years, not counting at least six other albums either under other names or as a principal collaborator, and not counting singles, EPs and 7-inches found laying on the sidewalk. (It’s true, we have one.) The bulletin for the new album promises some epic guitar playing, but it also mentions “a steep flight of fluent acoustic settings.” And with that, there is “Orange Color Queen,” a pretty, if typically opaque, psych-pop tune that will ring your Beatles bell. Who knows where this song will fit in the 87-volume Ty Segall Career Retrospective, which will be delivered via cerebral implant in the year 2048. The person we will want to meet then — and, in fact, the person we want to buy dinner for now — is the Ty Segall completist.
