After releasing three merrily menacing, minimal blues-rock full-lengths between 2011 and 2015 — “Will the Guns Come Out,” “Head in the Dirt” and “Moonlight” — Hanni El Khattib has taken a new approach to putting out his music. This year has seen him drop five short EPs since April, “Savage Times Vol. 1”, “2,” “3,” “4,” and lastly “5,” which comes out Dec. 2 via Innovative Leisure. All of these were recorded with Johnny Bell (Crystal Antlers) at his Long Beach studio, Jazzcats, which has become something of a second home for Khatib since recording his album “Moonlight” there. “Till Your Rose Comes Home” is dedicated to Khatib’s friend Chris Garcia, who passed away earlier this year. While the instrumentation may be minimal, with a machine in place of a drummer, there’s no lack of power and noise. The guitar, farfisa and space echo-affected vocals carry the song’s razor-sharp edge and raw, energetic intensity. It’s rather toe-tapping.
