Electric Guest

Since Asa Taccone and Matthew Compton released their debut as Electric Guest in 2012, the trickle of treacly electro-pop has turned into a raging river. Which makes “Dear to Me,” their first new music in five years, kind of more-of-the-same as far as the pop marketplace goes, though no less catchy. It’s the first single from a new album Electric Guest plans to release in early 2017, music that the band showcased at an intimate fathering Thursday night at the Monty Bar (on first blush, heavier on the soul). The new song, recorded in Taccone’s bedroom, features backing vocals from the Haim sisters, Este, Danielle and Alana. “One of the Haim girls lives down the street from me, so one day all three sisters came over with some other friends of mine and after hanging out for a few hours we went into my little studio and recorded the chorus vocals,” Taccone says. “I recorded them on one mic. It’s easy with them because they’re been singing together for years so they blend super well.”
