Over their first two albums, King Washington faithfully campaigned for the return of 1970s California, crafting folk- and blues-tinted classic rock with immaculate harmonies and meticulous production. They backed up those albums — 2012’s “The Gears” and 2013’s “The Overload” — with some estimable live chops too. “My Reflection,” released last week, is their first new music in three years and sees the band — singer-guitarists Tyson Kelly and George Krikes, singer-bassist Billy Lee and drummer David Contreras — getting out of the footsteps of their forebears. “Please don’t judge my reflection / show me my new direction,” Kelly sings as the warm keys, agitated backbeat and atmospherics help King Washington sound as close to current as they ever have. The song will appear on the band’s third album, “Potential,” out Jan. 27.
