Chad Ubovich plays in bands with Mikal Cronin and Ty Segall, but his own psycho-garage-metal fronting the trio Meatbodies compares favorably to his more famous friends both on record (2014’s self-titled album) and live. This week, the band — Ubovich along with Patrick Nolan and Kevin Boog — announced that their second album for In the Red Records, “Alice,” would be out Feb. 10. It’s described as a “heavy-pop concept album, metal on molly,” and if you’re conversant in Meatbodies’ intoxicating electric convulsions you can’t wait to work up a sweat. As a soundscape, the first single “Creature Feature” is like bubbling asphalt, inviting listeners to (as Meatbodies do) sniff the fumes of rock’s more dangerous past. Bring on the black lights and liquid light sows.
