Folk singer Devendra Banhart’s tour in support of his new album “Ape in Pink Marble” visited the sold-out Mayan Theatre on Tuesday night for an engaging evening that was at once somber, celebratory and politically charged. Banhart began the night slowly, then paused his set while two activists gave brief speeches to the crowd, then with full band in tow played a spirited set. Collaborators H. Hawkline (who has a new album on the horizon), Josiah Steinbrick (who just released a new album with his star-studded collective BANANA) and Rogov (aka Greg Rogove, who released an EP last fall) each played a support set.
