Stream: Mad Revival, ‘Bangin’ at Your Door’

There are blues and there are the “nu” (electronically processed) blues and then there is the slap-you-upside-the-head hootin’ and hollerin’ of Mad Revival. The L.A. quintet is the brainchild of Australian Nic Capelle (ex-Dreaming Bull), who along with singer-flautist Natalie Capelle, guitarist-keyboardist Anthony Marks, bassist Matt Littell and drummer Macy Lucarelli released two EPs in the past 3 1/2 months. Like rockers such as the Record Company and Vintage Trouble, Mad Revival work up an honest sweat — Capelle likes to imagine Howlin’ Wolf fronting the Beastie Boys — and try to think outside the box. The title track of their latest EP, “Bangin’ at Your Door,” is nifty marriage of old and new schools — if only the latter had more horns and organ — while the shouter “Jenny With the Big Legs” swims deliriously in brass. Music for a tent revival in a pretty modern tent.
