A purveyor of putrid puns might say that what transpired Saturday night at the Echo was shear fun. Ahem. So we’ll fall back on that to recap the Locks of Love benefit staged by L.A. folk-pop Lucy & La Mer, whose leader Lucy LaForge sacrificed some of her luxuriant hair in the name of charity.
The event benefited the Locks of Love Foundation, which provides hairpieces to financially needy kids who suffered medical hair loss. Rudy’s Barbershop provided free haircuts to donors — if their hair didn’t meet specifications, they could buy a trim, with the proceeds going to the charity — and besides the headliners, Leslie Stevens, Lauren Ruth Ward and Emma Cole provided the music. There were arts and crafts and a prize drawing for a ukulele as well.
And that’s the short of it.
