At long last, Aussie legends Midnight Oil are coming to the rescue, launching their first tour in 15 years. The classic lineup’s six-month tour, World Circle 2017, will make its way across four continents this summer, including a date May 25 at the Wiltern.
Socially conscious and unapologetically political and environmentalist, Midnight Oil released 11 albums between 1978 and 2002, including seminal releases such as “Diesel & Dust,” “Blue Sky Mining” and “Earth & Sun & Moon.” In conjunction with the Sydney band’s world tour, they are releasing a box set titled “The Full Tank,” featuring all of their releases, along with three additional box sets called “The Overflow Tank”, which will contain 14 hours of rarities and unreleased tracks.
Saw Peter Garrett at a writer’s festival last year on the release of his autobiography and there was the odd tiny hint that things would happen this year. Pretty excited for this: though some of the 80s albums have that glossy sheen that defines the period, which makes them hard to listen to for me now, they’ve always been ferocious live. Should be good.
