On the heels of the release of her new EP, “Good Look for You,” L.A. disco queen Gavin Turek performed her first-ever sold-out show at the Echo on Thursday night. When she emerged slowly onto the stage dressed in a hooded sequin robe, fans could not wait to see the imminent magic from Turek, who started her 12-song set with “The Distance” and “Surrender.” Turek, who boasts an addictive ’70s-inspired party experience, is also a trained dancer and actress. While she may be a performance veteran, having been on one stage or another since childhood, she still possesses an unjaded enthusiasm and genuine appreciation for her fans.

Once Turek shucked the robe, she was clad in one of her signature handmade fringe dresses and barefoot, and she lunged into the choreographed dance moves that define her energetic performances. Between songs, she couldn’t get too much talking in as fans were hollering terms of endearment — moments that she soaked up with a huge smile. The audience needed no help getting moving especially during her “Don’t Fight It/PYT” medley.

Watching Turek perform a totally well-rounded show of dancing, singing, and general disco merriment is completely engaging. Around mid-set, Turek left the stage to change outfits into a sparkling black one-piece. Soon after, a couple of back up dancers joined her onstage for more choreographed magic including the dreamy fun of “Bad Girls Remix”. She obviously has her own solid following and the soul-pop diva (with the exception of being a diva) can attribute some of that to her many collaborations with L.A. producer TOKiMONSTA.

Turek closed her main set with the TOKiMONSTA-remixed “Frontline” — a shimmering piece of true soul-pop. She left the stage and returned a couple minutes later to perform “Good Look For You” leaving her adoring audience with a Studio 54 kind of throwback with a disco-pop confidence.
