With their new album “Hot Thoughts” on the way March 17, Austin indie-rockers Spoon offered a sneak peek of their new tunes Monday night at the Observatory. They played four songs off the new album, starting the night with “Do I Have to Talk You Into It” and the new album’s title track, later offering “Can I Sit Next to You?” and, during the encore, “I Ain’t the One.” The band, who will be back in L.A. for a date with Belle and Sebastian at the Hollywood Bowl on Aug. 6, will be hosting a three-day residency next week (March 14-16) during the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin. The three nights of headliner-curated lineups go off at the Main just off 6th Street in downtown Austin.

Monday night also featured a strong opening set from L.A. rockers Cherry Glazerr, and it was drummer Tabor Allen’s birthday as well.
