With today’s release of “Scream,” L.A.’s Oddnesse — singer-songwriter Rebeca Arango, working with producer Doug Walters (aka Grey Goon) — has unveiled an EP’s worth of singles that showcase her brooding, ’90s-indebted sound. And an alluring sound it is, from the woozy shoegaze of “Somewhere Somehow” and “Incoming Call” to the edgy swirl of “Swim to the Shore” to the simmering “Scream,” beautifully tempered, down the last shake of the tambourine. If fuzzy guitars are coming back in the big way, Oddnesse knows how to wield those tones like the smart kids from the alt-rock days, creating intimate, 3- and 4-minute mysteries colored by her opaque imagery. More, please.
