A shifty-looking man in a black leather jacket (Sand’s Dylan Ryan) pulls up with his beat-up car, removing a black bag from the trunk. Is it full of guns? Money? Body parts? No, Frisbees and tennis balls. Thus begins L.A. Takedown’s tribute to the opening sequence from “Flight of the Navigator,” fulfilling Aaron Olson and video director Matt Hewitt’s long-shared dream to recreate the scene of dogs leaping through the air in slow motion, catching stuff in their mouth. It’s a win. Dogs are the best. Hewitt says, “Of course, the filming turned out to be challenging. It definitely gave me a newfound respect for any dog that could pull off an aerial catch, and a deeper respect for our director of photography/camera operator, David Feeney-Mosier.”
“Bad Night at Black’s Beach” comes from “II,” L.A. Takedown’s sophomore album, arriving May 12 on Domino.
