The line between comedy and tragedy has scarcely been so blurred, or the truth so absurd, as on Father John Misty’s new album “Pure Comedy.” The video for the single “Total Entertainment Forever” is the kind of outlandish that could only be conceived by somebody whose misanthropy includes himself: It stars, if you can follow this, Macaulay Culkin as Kurt Cobain getting crucified by corporate fascists, as viewed by George Washington through a virtual reality headset. OK, that’s a lot. Anyway, the video — directed by Four Gods and a Baby (Adam Green, Thomas Bayne, Toby Goodshank and Culkin) and featuring those four along with Jack Dishel, Spencer Fox, David Garland, Mical Klip, Tei Shi, and Dan Shure — will make fine fodder for conversation over an $8 coffee in Silver Lake.
