Brazil’s Boogarins introduce a few new elements with “A Patterned Repeated On.” One, it’s their first song with English lyrics since the band’s inception in 2013. Guest vocalist John Schmersal — of Braniac, Enon and Caribou — joins Dinho Almeida, Benke Ferraz, Raphael Vaz, and Ynaiã Benthroldo, adding a stream of tranquility washed in reverb that glides through this celestial pop song. Two, drummer Benthroldo introduces a more hip-hop break oriented style of drumming that compliments the dreamy melodic elements, most visibly during the exploratory instrumental bridge. Expect more of this on the band’s forthcoming music, which they’ve been recording all over North and South America over the last year.
