Songwriter-producer Gareth Thomas makes music under the bracketed moniker [debut]. Joined by a host of collaborators, Thomas has released an EP and a full-length, 2015’s appropriately titled “Postcards From Berlin,” exploring the darker corners of synth-pop. Or as someone recently put it, “The Eighties a la [Depeche] Mode.” Thomas, who toured as keyboardist for Gary Numan, this week unveiled his first single since last year, the pulsing and cinematic “Hello,” the starting point of two new crowd-funded EPs he has in the works. The song was unveiled along with a stark music video directed by celebrity photographer Tomo Muscionico and edited by Valquire Veljkovic. Thomas dances, convulses and works himself into a lather, but it’s the viewer who’s left on tenterhooks, wondering if he indeed feels “it’s nice to see you.”
