The Fuzzy Crystals’ album “Crystal Magic” becomes available this Friday. Recorded live to tape with Gus Seyffert (Beck, the Black Keys, James Supercave) at Sargent Records, “Crystal Magic” takes the listener on all sorts of adventures with Leopold Hackman, Christina Licciardi, Thomas Queyja, Magdalene Herring, David James T., Joel Saur and Alex Pfender. The biggest and loudest ride comes courtesy of “The King Is Dead,” a medieval-themed ultra-layered psychedelic charge. Another tune for imaging oneself on a horse is the instrumental “March Of The Emerald Scarab,” a wild west gunslinger melody. While most of the songs fall into various moods of guitar-loving folk rock, things get steamy on sexy soul jam “This Is Love,” and they deliver a whip-cracking cover of “Ain’t Got No, I Got Life” with Herring on lead, Nina Simone’s 1968 single from “‘Nuff Said,” a medley of two songs from the musical “Hair.” Start at the beginning with “Spinning,” a song about recurring dreams that take place in the underworld. It’s about being scared, but the harmonies sure are soothing.
