Long Island-bred, L.A.-based Foxtrax — Ben Schneid, Jared Stenz and Jon Stenz — make well-coiffed alt-rock with sweet hooks, swelling choruses and mainstream aspirations. The trio last year released their debut EP, “The Cabin,” named for the locale in the woods of North Carolina where they created the songs. (In fact, the name “Foxtrax” derived from the animal footprints they found in the snow outside said cabin.) The EP and a tour supporting the U.K.’s Barns Courtney elevated the trio to greater prominence, and now comes “Grey Morning,” the first single from a series of EPs Foxtrax plans to release over the next year. Produced by Alexander Wolfe and Ben Roulston (Wolf Alice, Florence + the Machine), it’s the kind of single that could get the whole coffee shop crooning “bluuuuuue” and make everybody forget that annoying whir of the blender.
