The Spaceland Block Party, which was scheduled to debut Sept. 16 and 17 in downtown Los Angeles, has been called off.
A statement released by promoters Spaceland Presents indicates the festival is not dead, just postponed:
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have regretfully had to postpone Spaceland Block Party to spring/summer 2018. Ticket holders may obtain full refunds at their original point of sale (Amoeba, Nightout, TicketIQ and Ghost Ramp). All tickets purchased through Ticketfly will automatically be refunded by Ticketfly, and refunds will appear in five to seven business days.”
In a communication to agents, the promoters cited “the combination of heavy event traffic in the L.A. market and surprisingly low ticket sales” for the cancellation, adding that it was “a difficult decision.”
The event, originally scheduled for a downtown warehouse complex and then moved last week to Union Station, was supposed to feature a lineup including Vic Mensa, Highly Suspect, the Horrors, Joey Bada$$, Big Wild and Bishop Briggs, among others.
Spaceland Block Party was the second festival scheduled for next month to be scotched. Last week, MainFest Alhambra, which had been set for Sept. 9, was called off.
Next month is crowded with Southern California music events both big and small, free and ticketed. To name a few: The Made in LA Fest, Chinatown Summer Nights and the West Adams Block Party on Labor Day Weekend; the Ohana Festival, Day & Night Festival, the High & Low Festival and the Sunstock Solar Festival the second weekend; San Diego’s Kaaboo Fest, the Long Beach Folk Revival Festival, Tarfest and the Glendale Open Arts & Music Festival on the third weekend; Pioneertown’s Desert Stars Festival on the fourth weekend (not to mention Life Is Beautiful in Las Vegas); and at the end of the month, Long Beach’s Music Tastes Good festival.
Maybe the bands were a bit shite?
