Haunted Summer’s lush single “Every Step” is about overcoming obstacles, taking things one step at time in the long trudge toward happiness, and in general becoming a better you. One of those steps is facing your fears, which is the theme behind director Ryan Maples’ new video for the song. The narrative follows a boy, portrayed by Henry Monfries, who is haunted by visions of mysterious cloaked figures. He wanders Los Angeles seeking to connect with them, sending up smoke signals that, at last, are answered.
Haunted Summer — the duo of Bridgette Moody and John Seasons — will send up a smoke signal of their own on Friday, when their long-awaited full-length “Spirit Guides” is released. It’s full of dreamy sonic explorations, cinematic orchestration and meditations on “what it takes to be happy,” as Moody sings in “Pool of Tears.” There’s no shortage of mystery in the latter, though “Spirit Guides” might make unraveling it a more pleasant task.
