Chelsea Wolfe delivered a cathartic serving of drone and distorted doom to a ghoulishly dressed crowd celebrating her recently released album, “Hiss Spun” (Sargent House), at The Regent on Saturday night. The audience hollered like wolves under a full moon when Wolfe emerged on stage standing tall in 6-inch vinyl platforms and a black fringe dress. The band started the set with “Spun” off the new record. Fan-favorites “16 Psyche,” “Carrion Flowers,” and “After The Fall” had the audience swaying slowly back and forth in a state of reverential bliss.
EBM duo Youth Code started the show with an energetically angsty set full of hardcore-inspired screaming between the duo and industrial dance beats that blasted loudly off the stage. Lead singer Sara Taylor possessed the audience with a dynamic performance and strong vocals that seemed to gain in force from song to song. The spectators showed their appreciation with a small mosh pit.
