“We all need to give a serious damn about our planet right now,” says Amanda Bjorn. She and bandmate David Donaldson share this soulful, stomping Bjorn and the Sun song “Oh My My” as a call to action, which they wrote and produced with Rich Jacques at the start of 2017. “Trump had been in office for a month, the women’s march, BLM protests and immigration rallies were popping up all over the country,” explains Bjorn. “A real frenzy was taking place and it really felt as if people were waking up, including myself.” The duo believe it is an artist’s duty to participate in the conversation.

“As artists, we kept thinking we are part of the problem if we don’t write or make art about what’s happening,” continues Bjorn. “There’s a nostalgia for the ’60s and ’70s here in L.A. with young people and yet, what we’re living now is reminiscent of those times. We have to be self-aware and speak up! How can we all use our privilege to raise the voices of the unheard?”

The video combines footage from the last year of “protests, gatherings, influencers and martyrs” before and after Trump’s election. She adds, “We wanted the video to be jarring and to capture this particular moment in time, but also juxtapose it with footage from 60s protests to show how backwards we’ve become. We’re still fighting for women to have the right to make the best decisions for their own damn bodies? In 2017? It’s ludicrous.” Agreed.

“Oh My My” offers a bluesy pop taste of what’s to come on the duo’s full-length album, the follow-up to 2016’s “Young and Restless” EP, which will arrive before the end of the year.
