The Breeders returned to the El Rey Theatre on Monday night for the first time in four-plus years for a buoyant concert on the heels of the news that 2018 will bring the influential indie-rockers’ first album since 2008. Guitarist Kim Deal, who had told Marc Maron on his podcast Monday that a new album was in the works — and sister Kelley were all smiles as the quartet roared through through their set, which included the new song “Wait in the Car,” released in October.
Chicago’s Melkbelly opened the night.

Kim’s not a bassist. In the Breeders and as a songwriter she primarily plays rhythm guitar. On stage, she plays rhythm guitar. Josephine Wiggs is the current bassist in the Breeders. Kim was the bassist in the Pixies.

[…] Right before they played the El Rey Theatre in November, the Breeders tipped their hand: A new album would be arriving in 2018. This morning, the resurgent alt-rockers made it official. “All Nerve,” their first album in a decade, will arrive March 2 via 4AD. It will include the single “Waiting in the Car,” a song they began playing live back in 2014 that was finally released as a single last year, and the title track, a two-minute slow burn that was revealed today. The album reunites “Last Splash”-era members Kim and Kelley Deal, Josephine Wiggs and Jim Macpherson and was recorded at Candyland Studios in Dayton, Ky.
