Future Fire are the L.A.-based duo of Darren Burgos and Dylan Willoughby, who make electronic music that suggests a world where humans might not be in charge (if indeed we are) and the machines control the jukebox. Willoughby helms the electronic project Lost in Stars, and the duo co-produced the 2016 electro-noir album “Perfect Shadow” by Kid Moxie (Willoughby and Kid Moxie also teamed up on a cover of Bauhaus’ “All We Ever Wanted Was Everything”).

On Dec. 15, Future Fire will release their debut album “Shattered Light,” via their own This Apocalypse imprint. Their dystopian vision is realized in 19 mostly instrumental tracks with gloomy, elastic synths and icy drums that rattle the ghosts of ’80s synth-pop and industrial techno. The single “Another Time (Life of a Sex Robot)” makes even the possibility of intimate relations sound discomfiting. Says Willoughby: “We wanted to capture a sort of innocence from Depeche Mode’s ‘A Broken Frame’ and juxtapose it with the sordid life of a sex robot who can’t understand the human’s exploitative desires and commands, and sits there bored and dreaming.”
