The Neighbourhood’s love affair with their hometown crowds continued Thursday night at the El Rey Theatre, with a sold-out show that mixed new material with old. There has been a flurry of activity recently from the band, who last released an album (“Wiped Out!”) in 2015 — in September, the surprise release of the EP “Hard,” followed by frontman Jesse Rutherford’s solo album in November, followed by two new singles, “Stuck With Me” and “Scary Love” from the quintet’s next EP, “To Imagine,” coming in January.
Speaking of Rutherford, he entered the show Thursday night from above, suspended from a chain and gliding down to the stage as the Neighbourhood kicked the show off with their indelible single “Sweater Weather.” A night of thumping beats, Rutherford’s crooning and the insistent screams from fans ensued.
Kid Bloom, playing a set of songs largely from their September full-length debut “A Long Kiss Goodbye,” and Field Medic opened the night.
