San Diego-bred the Gloomies debuted in 2015 with the trippy-as-its-title “LSD” before taking a turn last year toward windswept (but still reverb-drenched) desert rock on their “Blackout” EP. The new year figures to bring more Gloomies music, but in the meantime they’ve released the one-off, “Space.” It’s a glacial synth ballad, drums patiently pounding in the distance, that features the band’s Andy Craig duetting with Cults’ Madeline Follin. Mixed by Cults’ Brian Oblivion with producer-engineer Shane Stoneback (Sleigh Bells, Vampire Weekend, Cults), it’s a oozing song for those moments that space and time melt into one.
