Prism Tats‘ Garett van der Spek follows 2016’s self-titled debut album and last year’s EP “11:11” with “Mamba,” a new full-length being released by Anti- on March 2. Explaining the title, van der Speck says “It’s the name of a venomous snake, and in my hometown it’s a slang term for the biggest or meanest of something.” Recorded with producer Chris Woodhouse (Thee Oh Sees, Ty Segall), “Mamba” follows similar themes carried over from “11:11,” namely self-imposed isolation, hopelessness, and technology addiction. “Most of these new songs came from taking in what’s going on in the world today, and being afraid of the future we’re headed toward,” says the L.A.-based South African. For the “Daggers” video, the artist took director Jonny Look to visit his brother Mike, who shows off his knife collection and skills.
