After a successful run in 2015 with Glitterbug, Liverpool trio The Wombats are gearing up for the release of their fourth studio album, “Beautiful People Will Ruin Your Life,” out Feb. 9 via Kobalt Music Recordings. The latest single from the album, “Turn,” debuted on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show, and along with lead single “Lemon to a Knife Fight,” has been racking up Spotify streams ever since.

“Turn” fits the relentlessly catchy indie-pop we’ve come to expect from the Wombats. According to frontman Matthew “Murph” Murphy, it’s the most electronic song on the album. He was pushing for something more organic/less synth driven and, as he puts it, “’Turn’ was … kind of a beautiful mistake.” Lyrics like “I want to get college girl drunk tonight/No morning fears, no mountains to climb/They say the best memories are the ones that we forget,” and, “I like the way you turn me inside and out,” are sneakily profound over danceable guitars and a clap-a-long beat. The Wombats will be taking their animated live set on the road this summer with Weezer and the Pixies. Don’t worry though, you can get college girl drunk with them when they headline The Fonda this Thursday night.
