Stream: Pinky Pinky, ‘Hot Tears’

Young L.A. trio Pinky Pinky straddle the line between garage-rock and girl-group pop, their doe-eyed charm far exceeded by their steely-eyed determination to steer clear of the cookie-cutter work that makes so many groups in both subgenres interchangeable. Drummer-singer Anastasia Sanchez, the oldest in the group at 20, and 18-year-old bandmates Isabelle Fields (guitar) and Eva Chambers (bass), released their self-titled debut EP only last fall. Last week they returned with the title track to EP 2, “Hot Tears,” sounding pretty darned grown up. It’s a two-part suite that, in under three minutes, segues from a bluesy instrumental showing off Field’s licks to a sweet waltz topped by Sanchez’s crooning. Both halves are catchy, and if nothing else, they’ve played to our short attention span.
“Hot Tears” is out Feb. 14 via Innovative Leisure.
